Gambrazzio, a realtor living in the off-Cape town of Abington 20 miles south of Boston, is being called this week as a witness for the defense in an apparent attempt to refute Frazier's claim that he spent the night of the murder at the Mulvey house in Eastham. Burke also testified yesterday that McCowen on the day of his arrest initially denied having any physical contact with Worthington, as he had in two prior interviews with police. But when confronted with a DNA report linking him to Worthington, Burke testified, McCowen said "it could have been him." A state police DNA expert testified Friday that the odds of the saliva found on Worthington's right breast not coming from McCowen at 1 in 199.8 billion. The DNA expert, Christine Lemire, took the stand again this morning, with George's numerous questions about the chain of custody for DNA swabs an apparent attempt to create doubt about its validity among jurors.Burke described McCowen as lucid, sober and cooperative during the 5- to 6-hour long interrogation, which McCowen declined to be recorded.
Candidates up for south central Mesa challenges
Finter supports building more fire and police stations, but he thinks voters will reject the bond measure in its current form so soon after a proposed primary property tax "went down in flames" in 2006. Finter believes the proposed capital improvements are too important to risk defeat because of the way they would be funded. He would prefer paying for them with an additional sales tax. "First, we have to re-establish credibility with the citizens of Mesa," he said. Finter's stance on the property tax has made some waves. Although the Mesa Chamber of Commerce endorsed him, it said they had reservations about his views. "I'm not very happy with Mr. Finter not supporting the secondary property tax, but I like Alex and think he's a good man, so hopefully he'll come around," Whalen said.

Late February means early spring in western Colorado, in spite of the calendar lagging a couple weeks behind. Spring brings Spring Break (breakaway?) for many valley residents but even more important for those of who watch the skies, it’s migration. In particular, we’re keyed to the passing of sandhill cranes on their way north to summer nesting and breeding grounds. While there’s hardly an easier way than to simply stake out a seat in the backyard and look up, two festivals offer up-close and personal looks at sandhill cranes and bits of education as well. The most local of the festivals is the Eckert Crane Festival, this year scheduled for two Saturdays, March 15 and 22. The event is co-sponsored by Surface Creek Winery and Gallery in Eckert and the Black Canyon Chapter of the Audubon Society.

A week after the murder of a truck driver in a road accident near the Shivpuri chowk, the police has shortlisted 22 suspects -- all owners of white Skoda cars of Patiala -- one of whom could be involved in the killing. The person who had shot the truck driver, Harbhajan Singh, on October 3 evening was driving a Skoda. That is the only clue the police has. The truck had allegedly hit the rear of the car and the car owner was so angry that he pumped bullets into the stomach of the truck driver. The police claims that a .32 bore pistol was used. The police concentrated on identifying the owners of Skoda cars in Patiala only after eye-witnesses of the killing reported that the car bore the registration code of that city. The car number noted down by some eye-witnesses was, however, found to that of a two-wheeler.

Sleepy Hollow Police Brutality Alleged
The FBI is investigating accusations of police brutality and misconduct in the historic village of Sleepy Hollow after officers used stun guns on a 16-year-old boy and another man on separate occasions, the mayor said Wednesday. The FBI notified the village about a month ago that it would investigate, Mayor Philip Zegarelli said. The bureau will have the village's "full cooperation," he said. Resident Mario Gomez said a detective who he believed was romantically involved with his 22-year-old daughter beat and shocked him with a stun gun during an argument in October 2006. Gomez, who was arrested and later released, has filed a federal lawsuit against the detective, the village and police officials, claiming his civil rights were violated. Police used a stun gun on Duanny Lara Mota, 16, in August after he cursed officers and ran from them after they ordered Mota to accompany them to police headquarters.
