| Ankeny to Woodward trail gets DOT money
Ames, Ia. - The Iowa Transportation Commission awarded a state grant of $565,960 today to pay for construction on a key stretch of a planned 25-mile recreational trail between Ankeny and Woodward. The state money will be used for work on a 5.25-mile section between Madrid and Woodward, including a bridge over the Des Moines River, state officials said. When the project is completed, the multi-use trail will link Ankeny, Sheldahl, Slater, Madrid, and Woodward, extending through parts of four counties as part of the proposed Central Iowa Trail Loop. The corridor was purchased by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation two years ago from the Union Pacific Railroad. A section of the trail in Ankeny is now open to the public, and another stretch in the Woodward area will open this fall, said Rich Voelker of Snyder & Associates, who is the lead engineer for the trail project.

Defending champion team returns to Langkawi
Stage 3 is a twilight hot dog circuit on the waterfront, while Stage 4 is a new circuit to the Classic. The course is entirely within Eastern Park, around the Botanical Gardens, and at two kilometers in length with long straights it should allow strong riders a chance to shine. The final stage also covers roads within Eastern Park, but is much shorter and features two technical corners and a nasty climb to the finish line outside the entrance to the Botanical Gardens. Melbourne's weather is predicted to be fine throughout. A near perfect 25 degrees for Stage 1, but steadily increasing to the high of 37 on Saturday before a cooler day for the thousands of recreational riders who are expected to join the professionals for Amy's Ride, the Amy Gillett Memorial ride, which proceeds the final stage.
Interim process may get tricky
At 9 a.m. on Feb. 20, Scott Moore and Paul Pinkston will be two of 11 Knox County commissioners making interim appointments for 12 vacant county offices. Thirty minutes later, a Knox County chancellor will begin hearing arguments over whether they should be allowed to do so. Sixteen plaintiffs, including one who's vying for one of the interim appointments, want to oust Moore and Pinkston from office, and they're asking Chancellor Daryl R. Fansler to suspend the commissioners until the ouster suit is decided. They claim that Moore, who resigned last week as commission chairman, and Pinkston lied under oath when testifying during last year's trial that found commissioners violated the state Open Meetings Act the first time they made appointments in January 2007. Other grounds for ouster, the plaintiffs contend, include violating the sunshine law and Moore's seeking the advice of an outside lawyer in making appointments.

His condition was not available yesterday. The driver of the car that hit the man was not charged. .
