The charity is a division of Little League designed for kids with physical and mental disabilities. Justin, dad Paul and little brother Max have served as "buddy helpers" in the nonprofit for several seasons now.

True to his word, Justin secured the 13 donors and a total of $4,680 for his friends.

But during his party last weekend at Turner Field's 755 Club, Justin and his friends, all decked out in the appropriate dress of baseball jerseys and jeans, were shocked when a 14th unexpected donor came forward.

Veteran Atlanta Brave and Justin's baseball hero Julio Franco (Justin even wears the player's famed No. 14) suddenly appeared on the club's big screen TV, via a video greeting to say hello and donate to the charity.

There was just one problem: holding aloft a large cardboard check made out to Murphey Candler, Julio told Justin: "I don't know how many stamps to put on a check this large.

Police Say Bey IV Involved In Oakland Journalist Slaying

EMERYVILLE, Calif. -- The attorney for Oakland Post editor Paul Cobb told NBC11 that slain journalist Chauncey Bailey was working on an article that would have criminally implicated Your Black Muslim Bakery, which was raided by SWAT teams Friday morning.

SLIDESHOW: SWAT Swarms Your Black Muslim Bakery

Police said the grandson of Your Black Muslim Bakery founder Yusef Bey was involved in Bailey's death.

Attorney Walter Riley told NBC11's Jodi Hernandez that Bailey had been working for months on an article about the bakery. Riley said Cobb pulled the article and told Bailey he needed to get more information.

Riley said police interviewed Cobb about the piece but had not asked for it.

Riley said the Cobb couldn't get into Bailey's hard drive to get the article because Cobb did not have Bailey's password.

Lack of action highlights local fishing spots

The Chetco is fishing slightly better though, with scores of two-to-four fish per boat made up of a mixture of fresh fish and spawners. He said both rivers could use some more water to move fish and increase flow, even though we just had a storm roll through.

Harrison Ibach, of Mad River Outfitters (707-826-7201), reports that things have slowed way down on the Mad River. He says that January is the best month for fishing the Mad, with February a close second.

But by this time of year, things can really start to tail off. Not to mention that the water clarity went way down after the last storm. Yet intrepid anglers using the long leader technique continue to pick up fish, just not as many as a few weeks ago.

Unfortunately, I'm sorry to report, the Smith and Chetco may be the best things we have going right now.

(Jan. 12) – Phillip Zeigler, judge of the 52nd District Court in Gatesville, will complete his 26th year of public service in January and hang up his robe.

Zeigler, the senior Democrat in Coryell County, began his career as district attorney and ascended to the bench behind the late Bob Cummings. He has held the bench for 18 years.

Zeigler told News 10 in a prepared statement that he has decided not to seek another term when his current one expires in December.

He stated he has discussed the decision with his family and already has informed his staff and attorneys who practice in his court of his retirement.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Zeigler is a Gatesville native. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1963 and completed law school at the University of Texas in 1972.

Movie Talk

Well, there's a cameo at the end from Vin Diesel.

And, I mean, that's the least he can do, since the original "Fast and the Furious" launched the career he managed to deep-six in record time. Turning up in this sequel feels like Vin's way of saying, "Please forgive me for 'The Chronicles of Riddick' and 'A Man Apart' and 'xXx' and 'The Pacifier,' and especially for wearing a dead cat on my head and trying to 'act' in that courtroom flick Find Me Guilty'" — am I right?

Dear Mr. Smithee,

Fifteen years ago, when I was but a young teen, my friends and I watched an old horror movie.

Campaigning in hard times

Even though the economy teetered on recession, GDP growth didn't go negative until the third quarter - too late to alter the intoxicated zeitgeist of the '90s. As a result, during that campaign we heard a lot about other things, like a "lockbox" for Social Security (Gore) and "compassionate conservatism" (Bush), but almost nil about the wavering economy that the new President was about to inherit - and voters didn't seem to mind.

But studying the calendar only goes so far. That's because there's a lag between economic reality and public perception of economic reality that's tricky to gauge - and it can be lethal to candidates, as President George H.W. Bush learned in 1992. The economy was steaming along at a healthy 4%-plus clip in the third and fourth quarters, but voters ejected him anyway, locked in a mindset from six months earlier when the economy was struggling to emerge from recession.
