Owner of pit bull found bleeding from gunshot wound claims dog

PORT ST. LUCIE — A local woman found a pit bull with a bullet wound outside her home Saturday and police are trying to find out who shot the animal, according to police officials.

The female dog named Costa was taken by Port St. Lucie Animal Control to an emergency veterinarian's office and then taken to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County, according to Officer Vanessa Moore. She was picked up by her owner Monday afternoon, according to Humane Society Director Frank Andrews.

A woman found Costa when she was taking out her trash at her home in the 2600 block of Southwest Cameo Boulevard on Saturday evening, Moore said. The dog was bleeding profusely from its wound, but had a sweet disposition and followed the woman as she walked outside.

The animal had no tag, implanted chip or identifying tattoo, Moore said.

Marine veteran pursues, battles robbery suspect

A Marine Corps veteran chased and tried to pin down a man suspected of stealing from his northeast Salem home early Sunday.

After the suspect got away, police joined the pursuit with a police dog. They arrested Rusty Weston, 42, who has no known address, a few blocks from the scene.

The incident started about 1:20 a.m. when Douglas A. Warden, 43, awoke in his home in the 800 block of Highland Avenue NE. A cell phone, coffee maker, some clothes and a picture of his daughter were missing, he said.

Warden stepped outside and saw a man duck around the corner of a nearby house and race down an alley. Warden jumped two fences between his house and the alley and tackled the man.

Warden said he had the suspect in a choke hold, but the man tried to gouge his left eye out with his thumb, so he let him go.

State VS Ryan Frederick-no this young man does not deserve the death penalty. I question if he should even be prosecuted. I am truly sorry for the officers family. I think it is because he killed an officer that he is being treated so harshly. Noone will ever know if this was an intentional murder or if Mr. Frederick was only trying to protect himself and his property. The fact that he has no criminal record should be considered. I would like the prosecutor to ask himself, "If this man had shot an intruder intending to enter his house illegally would I be charging him man?" It is very apparent that the police department made many mistakes that night. Why should this young man be punished for the rest of his life. Bridget, Gates NC

-I believe that the police didn't ID themselvees as usual and that Ryan Frederick was protecting his home against intruders, and HE should be released at once.

Weapons on Campus: Concealing the Issue

However, the facts behind concealed carry actually show that this is patently false.

Concealed carry's opponents usually typify the practice as something that allows anyone who wishes to tote their firearm to do it without any sort of restriction. However, according to the laws of a certain state, before a concealed carry permit can be granted, an applicant (who must be over 21) has to pass a two-day intensive course. The first day is an eight-hour seminar on the statutory limits of concealed carry, so that weapons owners are knowledgeable and responsible; the second day is dedicated to a shooting examination, so that any bad shots are disqualified. In addition, background checks immediately bar anyone with a criminal record and seriously hurt the chances of someone with a history of mental illness, and if an instructor thinks that someone's applying simply to fulfill a Bruce Willis fantasy, then he has full allowance to flat-out reject them.

However, I was born in a Catholic family and baptized as well. But I do not know what my beliefs are yet. I belive and I have my questions. Any way, I had one more wierd question I guess you could put it... how do you know where to point on the green screen when you are on the air? Thanks again,Amanda Langage-17

Thanks Amanda...sorry if my response to you was somewhat confusing...But in a nutshell, here is my opinion on the issue:Since the beginning of the earth and its atmosphere, there is evidence that the climate (or averaged weather conditions) has always fluctuated over various time periods, both up (warmer conditions) and down (cooler conditions). Currently, it appears we are in a period of slow warming. The question is whether human activities (specifically the burning of fossil fuels, including coal and petroleum products) will lead to a warming that will be irreversible.

Municipal Council reviews steps to ease city traffic woes

The council reviewed the efforts made to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure a breakthrough in a number of areas like closing some sub-roads at certain hours and adding new lanes that lead to some roundabouts. The council also reviewed the progress of work at a number of vital roads and new crossroads like the Southern Express Highway, Middle Corridor, doubling of 18th November Road, in addition to the new roundabouts and making improvements to Stars Cinema and Sheraton crossroads.

The council also reviewed a number of projects that will be designed and implemented like the truck roads, which extends from the Sultan Qaboos Road to connect the Southern Expressway and Hamriya road project in Al Wadi Al Kabir and the soon-to-begin doubling of Ghala/Ansab road. These solutions come as part of a comprehensive plan to finding solutions for traffic congestion.

Cyndi Lauper charts fun comeback through dance

POP star Cyndi Lauper is planning a chart comeback through dance music, but isn't worried how music listeners will view her change of genre.

Lauper, best known for '80s hits Girls Just Want to Have Fun, True Colours and Time After Time will release a dance album this year.

Bring You to the Brink was recorded in London, Paris and Sweden, and features collaborations with dance acts Basement Jaxx, Dragonette and the Scumfrog among others.

"I wanted a combination of a lot of different rhythms," Lauper explained.

"A lot of times in dance music they process the vocals so much you can't connect to it, there's no warmth, you lose the humanity.

"So I saw a medium I'd like to work in, but with a voice that's less processed, more human."

Lauper, 54, has sold 25 million-plus albums, while Time After Time has been covered by more than 100 acts from Miles Davis to Matchbox Twenty.

Inside Boeing's mega-factory

The Boeing factory near Seattle is so massive, it once began generating its own weather systems.

A state-of-the-art air circulation system had to be installed inside the monolithic manufacturing plant because clouds - the product of accumulated warm air and moisture - were forming inside.

Even if you're not really into aeroplanes, such facts make touring the Boeing factory - the world's biggest building by volume - truly fascinating.

Located at Everett, 50km north of Seattle in the Unites States' north-west, the almost 100 acre (40.47 hectares) factory houses Boeing's 747, 767, 777 and new 787 aircraft production lines.

About 25,000 people work at the site, which boasts its own security force and fire department, a fully equipped medical clinic, a childcare centre, a water treatment plant, its own electrical sub-stations, and 19 cafeterias which serve around 17,000 meals per day.
