Leading Companies Deliver RIAs on Adobe AIR
Developers used Ajax technologies to build both the browser-based version of ShifD and the desktop version deployed on Adobe AIR. The New York Times Company is also developing a sophisticated blog reader on Adobe AIR. "ShifD solves the problem of shifting data between all of a user’s Web-enabled devices," said Michael Zimbalist, vice president, research & development operations, The New York Times Company. "We see a future for device-independent media, with convergence around the user experience and not around any particular delivery platform, which is why Adobe AIR is an excellent choice for ShifD." Other companies using Adobe Flex and Adobe AIR to create and deploy RIAs on the desktop include: Atlantic Records; BBC; Business Objects, an SAP company; Deutsche Bank; FedEx Corp.; Loyalty Management Group (Nectar); Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group's Neopets and Wilson Sporting Goods.

Delivering his budget, Tsang also proposed to immediately exempt the duties on wine, beer and all other alcoholic drinks to promote the local wine trading and distribution industry. The 80 percent duty was halved to 40 percent last year. He also suggested a slew of tax relief measures which included a range of one-off income and property tax rebates, and lowering the standard tax rate. .
The driver’s ed everybody needs
Why am I doing this? Two reasons, actually. Reason No. 1 A public relations flak e-mailed me out of the blue and asked if I would like to come be a guinea pig at the Aspen Motorsports Parks new winter driving school before it opened to the public. Full disclosure: She promised free breakfast and lunch. Reason No. 2 The e-mail made it sound as if there might be a chance to do doughnuts on a huge patch of ice in a front-wheel-drive Ford Escort going about 40 miles an hour. The idea of this alone was enough to make me skip a morning of powder turns. While driving around the new winter track set up at the privately-owned Woody Creek club, however, it becomes readily apparent to me that theres another reason Im here. Reason No. 3 I need this course like Britney needs round-the-clock counseling.
Another disabled person used as bomber
BAGHDAD | A man in a wheelchair laden with explosives was pushed into an operations center in Samarra on Monday, where he blew himself up, killing the center's deputy commander. It was the third time this month, according to Iraqi security forces, that people with disabilities have been used to carry explosives that killed themselves and others. Interior Minister Jawad Bolani said the bomber might have unwittingly carried the bomb. He described the bomber as a regular visitor to the police station who was known to commanders there. Police said the man said he needed to speak with the major general in charge of police and military operations in Samarra. He agreed to speak to his deputy, Brig. Gen. Abdul-Jabbar Rabi, because the commander was in a meeting.
Highway closed in Florida after Victorian cyclist dies
Australian tourist Elsise Hoath was apparently looking in the wrong direction for oncoming traffic when she was hit at 12.20pm Sunday US time. She died at the scene. Mrs Hoath and her husband were cycling near the town of Marathon, near Key West in the Florida Keys when the accident happened. The 23-year-old driver of the car that hit her is unlikely to be charged. Lieutenant Pat Santangelo from the Florida Highway Patrol said the pair were attempting to walk their bicycles across the road. They successfully crossed the northbound lanes of the US 1 highway but tragedy struck on the southbound lanes. "Evidently, because the traffic comes from the opposite direction in Australia, apparently she looked at where she expected traffic to be coming from and didn't see anybody coming and walked into the roadway but there was a vehicle coming from her right,'' he said.
Ithaca not safe for pedestrians, bicyclists
The Journal reported a Jeep-Fed-Ex truck accident that occurred on Friday afternoon, Oct. 19, at the intersection of Court and Washington Streets. The dramatic photo showed the overturned truck and told the story of a bicycle rider pinned and killed under the truck. He had been riding an adult tricycle. My immediate thought was that Ed Coil rides an adult tricycle. Ed is a long time consumer at Challenge and a great guy. His most recent employment has been as a dishwasher at the Holiday Inn. He has always been proud of his work history and he is more than happy to stop and converse. He will give you a warm greeting and he is just a pleasure to deal with. .
Michelle Malkin:
The troop-bashers in Berkeley are at it once more. But this time, the rest of America lashed back. Message to the Left Coast: It's not the 1960s anymore. On Jan. 29, the Berkeley City Council passed several measures targeting the lone Marine recruitment office in town. The anti-war harridans at Code Pink have been picketing the center for months. Last fall, they defaced the building by slapping a sign that read "assasination" (sic) in the military office window. Instead of rising to defend the recruiters' property rights, the city council and mayor voted to sabotage them further. They granted Code Pink special parking privileges directly in front of the Marines' workplace to facilitate their protests -- and also offered them a free sound permit for six months. In the home of the free speech movement, the peace and love mob abused the power of government to help drive the Marines out of the city.
